365 Songs: Somewhere – West Side Story
This beautiful song written by Leonard Bernstein with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim is my favourite song from West Side Story, and indeed one of my favourite songs of all time! In addition to featuring on the cast recordings of many productions of the show, Somewhere has been recorded by artists ranging from Johnny Mathis to Josh Groban and Barbara Streisand to Kylie Minogue! The main theme of the song is actually taken from Beethoven’s Emperor Piano Concerto – and I didn’t realise that until I researched today’s blurb!

Beautiful song. Trouble with hearing these songs in the morning is that they’re in my head for the rest of the day, only to be replaced with another the next morning. Nota bad thing!
I am sooo excited to find that you are doing this 365 project. I am loving listening to you play the piano, all the songs I love. You were my first Spanish teacher and I’ve been so grateful for Coffee Break Spanish. Now I can hear you daily (and repeatedly) as a musician. Gracias!
