330/365 Songs: 1492 – Conquest of Paradise – Vangelis

365songs-novemberThis morning I am in the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, accompanying a group of Scottish students who have spent the past few days au carrefour de l’Europe, at the crossroads of Europe. There has been ceilidhing in the streets, active learning in the Strasbourg challenge, and a fair bit of accordion playing (including a few of the songs I’d pre-recorded before I left!)

A tradition on these Euroscola days is that when the young people join their compatriots from around the EU (some 700 16-18 year-olds will be sitting in the MEPs’ seats today) in the hémicycle of the Parliament, the music which signals the start of the day is the theme from the film 1492: Conquest of Paradise. This is normally followed by Toto Cotugno’s Insieme (which I played back in February, for my previous visit to the Parliament). I’m looking forward to today and I’m sure that our Scottish group will do us proud!
