333/365 Songs: Mull of Kintyre – Paul McCartney

365songs-novemberI’ve always really liked this song. This may explain the extended version I’ve recorded in which I lost count of the number of modulations! It was recorded by Paul McCartney/Wings in 1977 and was the Christmas no.1 that year. McCartney had a recording studio situation on the Mull of Kintyre in Argyll & Bute and this beautiful part of the country inspired him to write the song. When I worked in Argyll & Bute I regularly had to drive down from Lochgilphead to Campbeltown and it really is a beautiful part of the country. I thought I’d play something Scottish today and tomorrow for St Andrew’s day, although given the weather Let it snow would be more appropriate! I felt though that I better keep the Christmas songs for December! You have been warned…
