354/365 Songs: Little Town – Cliff Richard
For years Christmas ‘pop songs’ conjured up images of Cliff Richard in a woolly jumper and scarf swaying back and forwards singing Mistletoe and Wine. I’m not very fond of that song, but I do like Little Town which is based on the carol Oh Little Town of Bethlehem. As far as I can gather this was a new setting by Christian music composer Chris Eaton who also wrote another Cliff Richard Christmas song, Saviour’s Day. The words date from 1865 and were written by Philadelphia priest Phillips Brooks, inspired by a visit to Bethlehem. Here’s a version on YouTube of Cliff performing Little Town.
