357/365 Songs: Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer

365songs-decemberI asked Matthew and Ewan which Christmas songs they’d like me to play and when, so today Ewan wanted me to play his favourite, Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer. It dates from 1949 and was first performed by Harry Brannon New York radio and then recorded by Gene Autry. Since then it has been recorded hundreds of times by artists as varied as the Wiggles, Dean Martin, Paul Anka and The Chipmunks. I still think my favourite recording is by Ella Fitzgerald in an understated jazzy scat version!
