About 365songs

A few visitors have been asking about the 365songs project, so I thought I should provide a bit of background! Here’s an explanation taken from my January 1st post:

Yesterday my new piano arrived – the Roland RD-700GX and I’ve been playing it pretty much non-stop since. As we entered the new year I was thinking back ten years to the Millennium and to the fact that at the time I was playing much more regularly – on New Year’s Day 2000 I was playing in the Marine Highland Hotel in Troon, entertaining the guests at lunchtime.

This year one of my resolutions is to get back into my music and make a bit more time for it, and I’ve decided to challenge myself to posting a song each day of 2010. I’ll just be playing the piano so no need to worry about my singing! I don’t intend these to be perfect performances – I just really want to make a point of recording some stuff because it’s so long since I’ve done so. I’ve no idea if I’ll be able to keep this up to date, but I’ll try my best.

So the performances you’ll be hearing on the site over the next 12 months are all ‘live’ recordings and, as I said, they’re not going to be perfect recordings. I’d rather they were live though than ‘doctored’ after the event. From time to time I hope to have some guests (you know who you are!) and I may even get out my accordion and play along to some of the recordings…

The songs I’m playing are obviously copyright pieces, but I’m not selling them or making any money out of them in any way, so I hope there’s no issue with my recordings! Nonetheless, iTunes won’t accept the podcast feed because it contains copyright material, so if you do want to subscribe in iTunes and receive each day’s recording automatically in iTunes, go to iTunes > Advanced menu > Subscribe to podcast and paste in the following url: http://www.markpentleton.com/feed/podcast/

Any requests?

If there’s anything you’d like me to include in the performances, please do leave a comment and if I  know the song I’ll try my best to include it at some point in the future!
