Today’s song dates from 1966. It was written by John Denver and recorded by Peter, Paul and Mary. Leaving on a jet plane has been covered by various artists including Chantal Kreviazuk in the 1998 Armageddon soundtrack and more recently by Matthew Morrison as Will Schuester in the pilot episode of Glee.

Today’s song is the 1984 power ballad by REO Speedwagon, and was performed by the band in the 1985 Live Aid concert. It’s been used in many TV shows and films, most recently sung by Finn in Glee.

Yes, I was watching Glee last night! The song was first released back in 1983 and must have one of the strangest videos ever (which was expertly recreated in a literal version a few years back). I hope you enjoy my version of this classic “rock ballad”!
